What does a writer do when they don’t write?
I don’t make an excuse anymore. If I don’t feel like writing or doing anything for that matter, I just don’t force myself to work. So, what do I do instead? I cleaned the house today. Writers usually clean their house when they don’t want to write.
Sometimes, we pretend to look for inspiration by playing video games or reading all day. It’s true that people can get inspired by anything. But we play video games, watch TV shows, and read novels to enjoy ourselves, not for inspiration. We just don’t want to admit it.
My house is squeaky clean today. The fridge is fully stocked. The dogs are well-fed. All the dishes are clean. The bathrooms are all clean. The laundry basket is almost empty. Muse has come back for a few days already.
Still, I don’t feel like writing.
It’s the industry in this country other than the writing process itself that bores me. Don’t even get me started. I love writing. Writing is fine. But the industry here is a trap.
I need to go out and touch some grass before l lose my mind.
Today, I’m grateful for my clean house, of course.
